The question of how to choose running shoes has always excited the people practicing this sport. A few key things you must know is why are there special shoes for running and what is the difference between them. The answer lies in the fact that people have different feet, gaits, body weight, and a different way of running (duration, targets and so on). Therefore, the different people need the appropriate shoes to be able when running to minimize the risk of injury, increase the feeling of comfort and to derive maximum benefit from the training.
It is advisable to consult an orthopedic or specialist to assist you in your choice as the running shoes shall not be selected by color and how they look, but what comfort and benefit they carry. Be aware that running shoes for men and women are different – due to the difference in biomechanics and body weight. Do not be discouraged by the high prices of these shoes because they are worth to the last penny and this investment returns, because they protect you from injuries and prolong the time in the year in which you go in for sports and thus bring better results.
To select the appropriate type of running shoes is essential to know what type of foot you have.
At home you can do this using the method of the water footprint. To apply the method you must have a container with water, with which to wet the foot and a piece of paper on which to step. After you have finished the experiment and you have the imprint of your foot, you need to analyze the result. In most cases, there are three possible outcomes – low foot (flat foot), normal foot and foot with a high arch.
Normal foot – This is the most common type of foot. If you have such a foot that means you have normal pronation. People with normal foot have effective stepping and can run with a wide range of footwear. If you are bigger and have a normal foot then you should target to shoes providing additional stability. Runners with lower body mass in turn should address the shoes providing neutral cushioning without extra stability.
Flat foot – This type of foot is less common. Characteristic of it is that in early childhood is successfully treated with orthopedic insoles and a correction is possible. If you have such a foot that means you need shoes that reduce and correct the opening of your ankle while running and thus reduce tension in the feet.
Foot with a high arch – This is the rarest type of step, but if you have one, this means that you have underpronation. The underpronation – this means that the load is given when stepping to the outside of the foot and toes and your thumb does not play a major role, as in people with normal feet. The foot does not bend enough to take the load when stepping. In this case you need shoes with extra padding (cushioning).
