The cast chats about Carrey, 'Avengers 2' and 'Fifty Shades of Grey' at Comic-Con.
Jim Carrey may have publicly pulled his support of "Kick-Ass 2" in the wake of recent gun-violence tragedies, but that doesn't mean his co-stars have discounted the importance of his performance in the comic-book sequel."I was excited to work with Jim Carrey," Christopher Mintz-Plasse told MTV News during the San Diego Comic-Con live stream on Friday (July 19), after expressing similar excitement about playing a villain for the first time.

Kick-Ass himself, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, spoke about what Carrey added to the flick, likening his intensity and commitment to what Nicolas Cage was doing as Hit-Girl's father in the original movie.
"That element that Nic brought in the first one is exactly what Jim brings to this one," he gushed, noting how much the new film needed that element. "These are really talented actors who create characters. Jim, he's done his look from the comic book. He brought all the prosthetics and everything. He loved the first one, that's why he came onboard."
Neither actor has had any communication with Carrey since the Tweets heard 'round the world where he said he would not be promoting the movie. "I sent 'J.C.' a little text," Mintz-Plasse joked. "I have no communication with him."
"It's sad he's not here," Taylor-Johnson said, as his co-star nodded his agreement. "He's so full of passion. He brings that energy that energy. He raises the bar high. I had a fantastic time working with him. You will enjoy watching him."
As far as comparisons between the first and second film related specifically to the title character, Taylor-Johnson explained it this way: "the first one was him discovering Kick-Ass. This one is Kick-Ass discovering Dave."
Mintz-Plasse was impressed by that description. "That should be the tagline!" he offered.
Kick-Ass 2
Mintz-Plasse does sport a much different costume in this one, as he transforms from Red Mist to Mother----er. "It's like four pieces of leather. I had like five people, 10 hands, putting it on me all at once."
Mother----er assembles his own squad of villains to do battle with Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl and their ever expanding group of allies. They both compared the coming-together of all of the heroes to Marvel's "The Avengers."
Speaking of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Taylor-Johnson addressed rumors that he may be playing Quicksilver in "Marvel's The Avengers 2." "I don't think I can talk about that actually, but, it's definitely an exciting prospect," he admitted.
"If you don't want to do it, just pass it to me," Mintz-Plasse joked. They both noted that one of their "Kick-Ass" homeys, Evan Peters, will be playing the same character in ,"X-Men: Days of Future Past," albeit within different continuity.
"It's a really interesting character with a really interesting background," Taylor-Johnson said of Magneto's fast-running mutant son, who has been both villain and hero in the comics. Sam Taylor-Johnson, who he met when she directed him as John Lennon in "Nowhere Boy," recently hooked him up with some research material. "My wife just went out and bought the first ever cover - a really, really vintage one - the first ever comic [to have Quicksilver on the cover]."
So while the Quicksilver prospects look good, he did definitively shoot down another casting rumor. His wife may be directing the much-anticipated adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey," but he's not going to be in it.
"I would love to work with her again," he said. "But that film is all about casting and I'm anything but Christian Grey."
